At Arlington High School, the AVID program is dedicated to helping students succeed in college and beyond. We provide a range of support, including academic instruction, tutoring, guest speakers, and field trips, all designed to prepare students for a four-year university. Our goal is to help students improve their study habits, planning, and organization skills, while guiding them through the A-G requirements for admission to UC and CSU schools, as well as other competitive universities. We also motivate students to set high goals, explore various career paths, and understand the financial aid and scholarship application process. By encouraging community involvement and extracurricular activities, here at Arlington, we foster a fun and supportive environment where like-minded students can thrive.

AVID Elective: A Core Class for College and Career Success

The AVID Elective is a foundational course within the AVID College and Career Readiness System, designed to empower students. Offered during the school day, this class focuses on building essential skills. Students learn to organize their work, sharpen their writing, and develop critical thinking abilities. Weekly tutorials with trained college tutors provide in-depth support for challenging subjects, while hands-on activities help students explore college and career pathways. The AVID Elective gives students the confidence to take control of their learning and excel in a rigorous academic setting.

AVID is an excellent fit for you if you want to go to college and learn more about the process. We'll help you improve your work habits and commit to a challenging schedule where you'll develop your leadership and study skills. We require a minimum 2.5 GPA or a demonstrated commitment to improving your current GPA. (Remember, to be eligible for Cal States, you need a 2.5, while UCs require a 3.0. Competitive schools will expect a much higher GPA.) If you want to join a supportive family of students who are all working towards success after high school, AVID is for you.
