Principal's Message

On behalf of the students and staff of Arlington High School, I would like to welcome you to our community and another school year. A school year I sincerely hope is the best one yet for each and every one of us.
My name is Steven Ybarra and I have the good fortune to serve as principal of Arlington high school. This is my tenth year serving this amazing campus community and I am looking forward to all the lies ahead for us this year.
If you are new to our community, I am confident you will soon discover we are a school filled with wonderful students and a terrific staff. Hands down, the best school I have ever been associated with because of the people who make up our community. It is what makes us who we are and what makes us ARLINGTON. We are Arlington and it falls to each and every one of us to continue to make us great.
If you were here last year, then I am certain you will have heard me talk about our campus wide expectations and you will recall me asking that you take care of yourself, take care of each other and take care of our community. As principal, it is my expectation for all of us, students and staff alike, to live up to these values.
If you really think about it, I don't think it's too much to ask, but I do believe it's incredibly important that we all do our best to practice these three simple actions...take care of yourself, take care of each other and take care of our community. For you see, Arlington is special to me. And I hope it is special for you too...or that it will become a special place for you as well. We're going to spend a lot of time together this year and if we can all take care of ourselves, take care of each other and take care of our community....it's going to be a great year.
In closing, I would like to share one more important message with you about Arlington High School and something I hold dear to my heart. It is this idea of Remember The Name. Just like our campus wide expectations, there are three elements of Remember the Name. The first applies to our staff.
I challenge our staff with this question; how do you want your name remembered when our students look back on their time at Arlington High School? For me, I want our students to remember the name Mr. Ybarra as a principal who loved this school, cared deeply for everyone in it, demonstrated his commitment to service to all he encountered, gave his best each day and had tremendous pride in who we are as a school community and all that we accomplished at Arlington.
The second component of Remember The Name applies to you, the student. I challenge every student with a similar question; how do you want your name remembered when you leave Arlignton? I would hope it would be as a student who was kind, patient, accepting and respectful. A student who practiced perseverance and tried each day to be the best possible version of themselves in the classroom, on campus and in our community.
The third component of Remember The Name applies to Arlington High School. I challenge all of us to live up to our campus wide expectations, strive to be the best version of ourselves each day, show kindness and appreciation for everyone we encounter so that when people hear the name Arlington High School; they too realize we are a phenomenal high school community.
I welcome you again to our new school and I wish you all the best. Know that I will never ask you for perfection. None of us are perfect. But I will ask that you consider how you want to be remembered and expect you to work everyday to take care of yourself, take care of each other and take care of our community.
Lion Pride!
